The greatest benefit of outpatient surgery is you get to return home the same day a surgical procedure is performed. This results in reduced stress and quicker recovery times because most people prefer to be in the comfort of their own home, rather than in the hospital while recuperating.

Because of these added benefits, HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital has made many minor and intermediate procedures available through our Outpatient Care Department. This includes urologic, gynecologic, ophthalmologic and ENT (ear, nose and throat) procedures, as well as many minimally invasive procedures.

Some of the most common outpatient procedures we perform include:

  • Ear, Nose & Throat
  • Colonoscopy
  • Gastroscopy
  • Hernia Repair
  • Knee Arthroscopy (orthopedic)
  • Shoulder Arthroscopy (orthopedic)
  • Balloon Kyphoplasty (orthopedic)
  • Ophthalmology
  • Pain Management

In fact, St. Joseph's is one of the only hospitals in the metro-east to offer balloon kyphoplasty, a minimally invasive treatment for repairing spinal and compression fractures.

We've also recently invested in new state-of-the-art technology to provide some of the most advanced, minimally invasive surgeries available today.

Don't think you have to travel to a larger facility in the city for great care. You can receive the same care - if not better - at HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland. For more information on outpatient surgical procedures, please call (618) 651-2770.

Outpatient Surgical hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 3:30 pm for scheduled procedures and 24-hour coverage for medical emergencies.
