Helping You "Wake Up" to Sleep Problems

According to the National Institutes of Health, 50 to 70 million Americans are affected by chronic sleep disorders and intermittent sleep problems that can significantly diminish health, alertness and safety. For local residents dealing with sleep disorders- such as sleep apnea, insomnia, and narcolepsy - HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital (SJH) in Highland offers a sleep study program with a board-certified physician to help local residents sleep better and live well. Our Sleep Center is now located on the 2nd floor of the new SJH Medical Office Building.

"The SJH Sleep Center includes comfortable and home-like rooms plus the most current technology for our sleep study patients," says Peggy Sebastian, President and CEO at SJH. "Area physicians can get more accurate information to help diagnose and identify treatment plans for their patients' sleep disorders through our comprehensive sleep study program."

The sleep study program at SJH boasts two permanent sleep study rooms- complete with Sleep Number® beds, large recliners and beautifully decorated rooms- to help local residents feel at ease during their sleep study. Sleep studies are tests that watch what happens to your body during sleep. The studies are performed to discover the cause of sleep problems. Our sleep study specialists will review your tests to determine the best treatment plan for you.

Untreated sleep disorders have been linked to hypertension, heart disease, stroke, depression, diabetes and other chronic diseases. Sleep problems can take many forms and can involve too little sleep, too much sleep or inadequate quality of sleep.

If you suspect that you or a loved one has sleep apnea or another type of sleep disorder, contact your primary care physician and request a sleep evaluation at the SJH Sleep Center. To learn more, call (618) 651-2740.
