HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Recognized for Investing in Healthcare Economics


Healthcare EconomicsHighland, IL – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital – Highland was recognized for investing in healthcare economics in an award ceremony hosted by the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois on Thursday, April 14. St. Joseph’s was one of nine area hospitals recognized during the evening for significant investments over the past several years through hospital projects, expansions, and facility upgrades.

“It is a great honor to be recognized for adding to the economic success of our region,” said Elizabeth Govero, Interim President & CEO, St. Joseph’s Hospital. “Providing quality healthcare to our communities is important to the families who live here, and also to the economic progress of our region.”

St. Joseph’s Hospital employs 270 people, resulting in 296 additional jobs for the community, and generates a total annual impact of $187,522,593 on the local and state economy.

In addition to recognizing the hospital for their economic contributions to the area, the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois also presented an award to the HSHS St. Joseph’s Auxiliary for all of their volunteer hours and service to the hospital. The Auxiliary logged more than 13,000 hours at St. Joseph’s Hospital last year.

The ceremony was hosted by the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois, a not-for-profit member-based economic development corporation representing Southwestern Illinois, primarily Madison and St. Clair counties. The Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois works to unite the region for economic growth through its coalition of 200 board members who are leaders in business, industry, labor, education, and government. These effective partnerships serve as a driving force behind successful economic development efforts throughout the Metro East Region.

In addition to recognizing St. Joseph’s Hospital during the event, other hospitals including HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Alton Memorial Hospital, Touchette Regional Hospital, Gateway Regional Medical Center, OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center, Memorial Hospital Belleville and Memorial Hospital East, and Anderson Hospital were recognized.
