HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Celebrates National Nurses Week

Dear Editor,

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital recognizes nurses and nursing assistants in the week-long celebration of National Nurses Week. This national celebration is held every year from May 6, which is also National Nurses Day, to May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The week was created by the American Nurse Association to raise public awareness of the value of nursing, and to educate the public about the vital roles registered nurses play in meeting the health care needs of the American people.

To celebrate National Nurses Week, St. Joseph's will pay tribute to the registered nurses in our organization, those residing in our service area, and the nearly 3.1 million nurses nationwide. These nurses provide highly skilled, safe, quality care to their patients in a variety of settings, from the patient’s home to our hospital. Patients rely on them for their compassion. Nurses’ ethical commitment to deliver essential health care remains strong both as individuals and as a collaborative group of professionals.

We are deeply proud to be registered nurses and extremely proud to be associated with the nearly 130 nurses at St. Joseph’s, and all nurses that serve the patients of our region. The theme for National Nurses Week this year is “Culture of Safety: It Starts with You.” St. Joseph’s will be celebrating our nursing staff with activities and special recognition throughout the week. Please join us as we recognize our area's registered nurses during this special week by saying to a nurse you know, “Thank you for caring!”

Sincerely,
