HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Renewed Cancer Support Group Meets Thursday

Highland, IL - HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital – Highland is introducing a renewed Cancer Support Group, which meets the second Thursday of each month from 6-8 p.m. in the Frisse Conference Room at the hospital. The renewed format offers support and encouragement for cancer patients and their family and friends. The group held its first meeting in August and will have its next meeting on Thursday, September 8.

“This is a great opportunity for cancer patients to express feelings and thoughts in an understanding, compassionate, and confidential atmosphere,” said Jean Korte, manager of Spiritual Care at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

In addition to the support group, the hospital is also offering the opportunity to participate in the Look Good Feel Better program on a quarterly basis. Look Good Feel Better is a non-medical program which teaches beauty techniques to cancer patients to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The program is open to all women with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or other forms of treatment. The next session will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 12 in the Frisse Conference Room at the hospital.

There is no fee for participation in the Cancer Support Group or Look Good Feel Better program. For more information, please call the St. Joseph’s Hospital Pastoral Care Department at (618) 651-2980 or email jean.korte@hshs.org.
