HSHS St. Joseph’s Foundation Hosts Kentucky Derby Gala

Highland, IL – The HSHS St. Joseph’s Foundation will host its Kentucky Derby Gala on Saturday, May 7, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Highland in support of HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital. This year’s event is a twist on the annual fundraising dinner, focusing on games and the viewing of the Kentucky Derby on a big screen projector.

The fun-filled event will include cocktails, “Derby” games where guests can win prize tickets, a live viewing of the race on the big screen at 5:15 p.m., and a Kentucky Derby themed menu featuring filet mignon with your choice of chicken roulade or crab and lobster thermidor, all catered by 1818 Chop House in Edwardsville. Prizes will be awarded for the best derby hat and/or bow tie worn by guests, along with awarding the prestigious “Volunteer of the Year” award. Doors will open at 4 p.m. with the event running until 9 p.m.

“Our annual gala has been the cornerstone of the Foundation’s annual fundraising program for 11 years now,” said Amy Liefer, Foundation Director. “This event raises money that makes it possible for us to purchase much needed equipment and program costs that allow St. Joseph’s Hospital to provide the best possible health care for our community.”

Since its inception in 2006, the annual spring gala has served as a fundraising springboard for the Foundation and has raised more than $630,000 for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. Examples of notable items that have been funded by the St. Joseph’s Foundation over the years, include: 3D mammography machine, facility preparations for HSHS Rescue Flight helicopter, cardiac rehab monitors, laptops and iPads for improved patient care in surgery, lab and anesthesia, exercise equipment for Cardiac Rehab and Physical Rehab, and the continued operation/maintenance of the Friend’s Van, which provides complimentary shuttle service for patient appointments. Supporting the efforts of the Foundation is a way resident’s and community leaders can support the continued health of our community and promote its economic strength for years to come.

Area residents and community advocates are invited to purchase tickets to support the fundraising efforts of the HSHS St. Joseph’s Foundation at its 11th Annual Gala on Saturday, May 7. Tickets are $150 each and can be purchased online at www.sjhspringgala.com or by calling Lisa Smith, Philanthropy Specialist, at 618-651-2590 or lisa.smith@hshs.org.
